Anti-Racism Statement

The Faculty of Health Sciences at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÐ±¦µä¿ª½±½á¹û stands unified against all acts of racism and prejudice, including against people who identify as Black, Indigenous, or People of Colour (BIPOC).

We acknowledge that systemic racism is pervasive in our society, affecting our academic institutions, health care institutions, and patient health outcomes. As healthcare educators, we affirm our commitment to building knowledge through education, and taking active steps to prevent, identify, address, and eradicate racism. We commit to becoming allies by examining how privilege and positions of power may affect relationships.

Position Statement Addressing Indigenous Specific Racism and Discrimination in BC Health Care

The Faculty of Health Sciences are committed to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action. In addition, the In Plain Sight Report led by Dr. M.E. Turpel-Lafond (Aki-Kwe) provided recommendations to address Indigenous-specific racism in healthcare.

Cultural safety and cultural humility are foundational practices within the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÐ±¦µä¿ª½±½á¹û Health Sciences. This emulates a philosophy of caring, self-reflection, relational, strength-based, person-centered, trauma and violence informed practice.
